Beyond the stereotypical daily reporting on violence, AIDS and safari tours, Swedish based directors Teddy Goitom and Benjamin Taft set out to capture the creative street vibes of South Africa. On their first stops in Cape Town and Johannesburg, they meet up with the heavy metal band Ree-burth, the Soweto style setters, Smarteez, with their colorful street savvy fashion, video gamers label 2bop, and the limpopo music genre innovator, Gazelle, plus many many more.

About the Directors

Teddy Goitom

Born in Jerusalem in 1973, raised in Sweden and with roots in East Africa, Teddy Goitom created the global network Stocktown in 1998. Since then Teddy has produced cutting edge and socially engaged content for film, TV and digital media for Swedish Television, Utbildnings Radio and MTV. Together with his network, they produced the Stocktown TV music documentary series, which successfully aired on TV in Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Japan, Spain, Brazil and film festivals worldwide. He also was an active member of the CinemAfrica film jury, bringing African films to a Swedish audience. Teddy runs his own production company, Soeasy, working with both commercial and underground productions, operating worldwide, knowing no boundaries. He is the co-director of Afripedia, a five-part documentary series about the generation of rising African creative talents that are challenging all preconceptions and stereotypes. Learn More

Benjamin Taft

Born in Sweden in 1982, Benjamin Taft is a filmmaker, photographer, editor and motion designer based in Vancouver, Canada. Having joined forces with Teddy Goitom while at MTV, Benjamin travelled across the globe for clients such as H&M, Puma football, Canadian Olympic Committee, Grolsch Block Party, Pilsner Urquell, Peroni, Santa Maria, Marcus Samuelson, UR Swedish broadcasting, BKW & MTV Sweden. He co-directed the documentary Stocktown X: South Africa and the Afripedia series along with Teddy Goitom and Senay Berhe. His first feature length documentary film The Sandwich Nazi, premiered at SXSW where it was nominated for the Documentary Grand Jury Prize and went on to play at Hot Docs and many other international film festivals.
