In the tranquil setting of a small fishing community in the East Coast of Zanzibar, a fire is raging in the hearts of three young individuals and the entire community feels the heat. Surrender is a story about Amri, a man trapped between the traditional role of the family man his father expects him to fulfill, and his personal desire for Mashua, a local fisherman.

Celine Gilbert

Celine Gilbert is a multi-faceted and multi-talented film professional. She works as a researcher, program consultant, producer, facilitator and director. Her career in film includes director credits for In the Upper Room, a 35-minute drama produced by Golden Scud Productions in 1999, Surrender (2000), Ladette to Lady (2006) and The Secret Millionaire - Jonathan Hick (2009). Gilbert has also directed several short comedies on Hi-8 including Room No. (1996) and Norman’s Land (1998). Gilbert worked as an assistant producer for the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Association during the All Africa Games in 1995, and as an art assistant for the Belgium TV series Diamants. Learn More
