Barry Berk enjoyed huge success in South Africa writing and directing some of the best prime-time drama on local television. In 2011 he was selected as the first South African director to work on the British hit series, Wild at Heart. For South African television, Barry directed and wrote the acclaimed South African drama series The Lab for two seasons. The series garnered 19 nominations at the South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTA), amongst them Best Director and Best Drama Series; winning Best Actor, Best Actress and Best Ensemble Cast. His made-for-TV film, The Good Provider, won Best Family Drama at the BANFF World Television Festival in 2006 and received nine nominations at the SAFTAs including, Best Director and Best Drama. His other television credits include five episodes of the groundbreaking drama series Yizo Yizo. One of his episodes won Best Drama Series at Cinéma Tout Ecran in Geneva. He also wrote and directed the drama series Gaz’lam, winning Best Drama at the South African Duku Duku Awards. With Sleeper’s Wake, he made his feature directorial debut in 2012.
