Eking out a living selling trinkets amidst the traffic-clogged streets of Rio de Janeiro, Paulo Gale sees an opportunity to change his life by becoming a football manager. While searching for his own Neymar in Rio’s suburbs, he discovers the remarkably talented Glanderson, a boy who dreams of becoming a professional soccer player despite the fact that he has only three toes on his right foot. Gale uses his entrepreneurial spirit and creativity to try and make Glanderson a star. A film of comic verve, Running After offers a glimpse of life on the peripheries of Brazil’s capital.

About the Director

Jeferson De

Jeferson De is a Brazilian filmmaker, born in Taubaté, in the interior of São Paulo, Brazil. He studied cinema at the University of São Paulo, where he received a scholarship from FAPESP with for research on back cinema directors. In 2000, he published the manifesto, Dogma Feijoada. Screenwriter and director of the award-winning short films Distraída Pra Morte (2001), Carolina (2003), and Narciso RAP (2005). He was editor and finisher on projects at MTV and SBT, including: the series, Vinte few anos, Tudo de Bom and Popstars. In 2003, he produced the programs Brasil Total and Central Da Periferia in São Paulo, shown on TV Globo. In 2005 he launched the book, Dogma Feijoada and the Cinema Negro Brasileiro, within the collection, Aplauso. On TV, he created and directed, together with the label Trama, the program TramaVirtual, shown on Multishow . In 2007, he directed the short film, Jonas, só mais um, for the X Brasil Project for Marco Universal. His debut feature, Bróder, was selected at the 60th Berlin Festival and released in Brazil in April 2011, having received the award for Best Film by APCA (Association of Art Critics) and 11 nominations in the Brazilian Film Grand Prix. The script for the film was selected at the VI Screenwriting Laboratory of the Sundance Institute. In 2009, he founded the production company BUDA FILMES. In 2015, he debuted his second feature film, O Amuleto. In 2013, he directed Pedro e Bianca (TV Cultura), a TV series winner of and International Emm Kids award.
