word: collected poetry is a video anthology of spoken word poems brought to life, adapted from the work of four young poets living in New York City. Together, the collection explores an abundance of systematic and human complexities, as well as the everyday realities of being young and black. Featuring: Untitled by Makayla Posley, band-aids & other temporary healings by Trace DePass, From the Inside by Nkosi Nkululeko, and Rule #1 by Esther Aloba. 

About the Directors

Pat Heywood

Pat Heywood is a filmmaker based in Brooklyn, New York. His work has been featured on PBS, NOWNESS, Booooooom, Blavity, Button Poetry, Poets & Writers, Shots, SHOOT, Designcollector, Poetry Foundation, Moving Poems, TIDAL, Mubi and has screened at the Brooklyn Film Festival, Walker Arts Center in Minneapolis, and Playa Studios in Los Angeles. After graduating PAT began working as an assistant, then a coordinator at the production company SMUGGLER. During his four years at the company, he worked on projects for a roster of world-class directors, such as Barry Jenkins, Kathryn Bigelow, Tom Hooper, Bennett Miller, Todd Field, Henry-Alex Rubin, Susanne Bier, and Chris Smith, amongst others. Jamil McGinnis

Jamil McGinnis and Pat Heywood are a filmmaking team based in Brooklyn, New York. Jamil McGinnis is a Turkish and African American filmmaker/photographer originally from Kaiserslautern, Germany.
