It’s that time of year again! Starting July 9th, 2010, “Cinema Under the Stars” a free summer outdoor event co-presented by the African Film Festival, Inc. (AFF), hosts eleven nights of film, music, dance and workshops during the 11th Annual Summer Outdoors Series.
The films in this year’s festival range from powerful narratives to topical documentaries, and include familiar classics and cutting-edge works. The Festival is held in parks throughout the boroughs of Queens, Brooklyn, Bronx and Manhattan.
AFF is pleased to once again join forces with the Queens Museum of Art (QMA), the Bronx Museum of the Arts, Central Park Conservancy, St. Nicholas Park, the International. Caribbean American Diaspora Film,Inc., Countee Cullen New York Public Library, and Governors Island in Manhattan, the Museum of Contemporary African Diaspora Arts (MoCADA) and Le Grand Dakar in Brooklyn, for continued free outdoor events, throughout the summer of 2010!

The series will present three evenings of homegrown and blockbuster cinema for all ages, including: Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, Where the Wild Things Are, African Booty Scratcher, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Train Train Medina and more! So, bring your blankets and beach chairs and don’t forget to stay for the special raffle at the end of each screening! Screenings include Kirikou and the Sorceress, a beautifully shot animated film about a young warrior, who wants to rid his African village of an evil curse, cast by the wicked sorceress Karaba; Crooklyn, a classic Spike Lee film about a young girl and her family, living in the neighborhood of Bedford-Stuyvesant, during the 1970s; Cornbread, Earl and Me focuses on three youths, one of whom is the first from the community to enter college on an athletic scholarship; and the grand finale screening of The Wiz, complete with a costume and dance contest! Come as your favorite Wiz character for the costume contest. Each feature in the month-long series will be preceded by Brooklyn-based short films produced by Strongwind Enterprises, Ali Santana & Spec Boogie and Blitz the Ambassador.
